 Money forger sees light at Russian monastery

ORENBURG, January 24 (RIA Novosti) - A court in Russia's Urals has sentenced a novice monk at the Valaam Monastery to three and a half years in prison for counterfeiting money, a court spokesperson said on Thursday.
The man was put on the federal wanted list in late November 2005, when he forged 100-ruble bills. After his friend was caught red-handed buying goods at a local shop with the counterfeit cash, the man fled his hometown in the Urals to escape trial and sought shelter at the Vallaam Monastery, located on Lake Ladoga in the Russian north.

BAHA, 18 November 2007 — The Baha police arrested a Somali forger who also happened to be an overstayer. The man was caught forging iqamas and other official papers. According to Al-Riyadh newspaper, the same man was caught for forging five years ago and deported. Apparently, he managed to get in again and continue with the same illegal business.

An forger who fooled the art world for many years before being caught and sent to prison is opening an exhibition of his own work.
John Myatt of Staffordshire painted in the style of masters such as Matisse and had his work sold to auction houses, as well as to art dealers.
He was given a one year prison sentence for forgery in 1999 but now has a collection of his own in Birmingham.

This forger - who has an MA and LLB degrees from Lucknow University to boast- forged signatures of a judge to bail out a drug-peddler arrested with 70 kg charas. Later, he also signed the transfer orders of seven IPS officers. But one mistake gave away the fraud - he sent one of them to the Police Lines, something which was done only with non-gazetted officer. The man, identified as Ravindra Jaiswal of Bahraich, was arrested by the Malihabad police on Saturday. He had escaped from jail in 1996.

GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - An international forger, arrested last December at the Port of Sweetgrass, has been sentenced in Great Falls to 38 months in federal prison.
Singh was convicted in federal court in Great Falls on charges of visa fraud, aggravated identity theft, and identification fraud/document production.
Prosecutors say that on December 2nd, Singh appeared at the Port of Sweetgrass and presented his resident alien card, based on his marriage to a U.S. citizen. But he was accompanied at the time by a woman identified as his Canadian girlfriend.

An elderly German artist-turned-counterfeiter paid the price of perfectionism after being caught through his pursuit of the flawless forged dollar bill.
The 66-year-old Cologne man, who can only be identified under German law as Hans Jurgen K, was caught after discarding near-perfect, fake $100 bills in public litter bins as he felt they were not up to scratch.
A worker at a rubbish processing plant found the bags of rejected notes and police then traced the forger through personal documents that he had thrown away at the same time.

ABSTRACT:
In late 2001, The Orta Poleo Document Laboratory and The Lettera Document Laboratory, analyzed “The Gettysburg
Address”, appeared in Venezuela. The task was to determine if the document
was genuine or forgery. At the same time other colleagues were working on
another American historical document, know as “Declaration of Independence”.
Investigation results showed, through paper and printing process analysis, that both documents were reproductions treated with similar artificial ageing methods to deceive collectors of historical documents.
